Putt's Camp

Putt’s Camp is located on Raystown Lake near the southernmost end of the lake. Raystown Lake is a flood control lake completed in 1974 and has 110 miles of shoreline. The entire length of the lake stretches from the town of Saxton (Bedford County) to Huntingdon (Huntingdon County), a span of 29 miles.

Putt’s Camp is a primitive camping area operated by the Saxton Boy Scout Troop 471 with the cooperation of the Baltimore District Army Corps of Engineers on a non-profit basis. Therefore, to keep our costs at a minimum we ask for your cooperation in abiding by the following rules and regulations.

Rules & Regulations

  • Local Council Tour Permit with Certificate of Insurance from local council.
  • A Signed “Agreement of Use”
  • Garbage must be removed from campground. Pack-it-in, Pack-it-Out.
  • No cutting of standing trees, please use downed wood only. Note: There is plenty of firewood available.
  • Camp only in designated areas.
  • Park vehicles in designated areas only.
  • Do not move fire rings.
  • Please double check for tent stakes, they create a hazard when mowing.
  • Non-combustible material is not to be left in fire rings.

Rate - 

$2.00/person/night(Scouts & Adults) $50.00 minimum fee. An additional $50.00 refundable reservation fee must be paid prior to your arrival. Upon your vacating the camping area, the area will be inspected. If everything is in satisfactory order, your $50.00 reservation fee will be returned in full. BSA Tour Permits are required. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.



Camping area can be reached either by hiking trail or motor vehicle (4 wheel drive strongly recommended) via Terrace Mountain Trail (3.4 mi.), or by boat (approximately 2.5 mi.).
