The Laurel Highlands Council, Boy Scouts of America is the most active agency in southwestern Pennsylania, Maryland and West Virginia supporting youth shooting sports. Each year thousands of young men, along with young women in our Venturing program, gain exposure to shooting sports in a safe regulated environment.
With the support and assistance of donors like you, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has long been known as the point -of-entry into shooting for hundreds of thousands of young people and has touched the lives of more young shooters than almost any organization engaged with shooting today.
Since its founding in 1910, more than 1.3 million Scouts have gained the knowledge, skills and discipline necessary to safely enjoy the sport through a variety of shooting education and training programs.
Scout programs help bring these key aspects SAFELY to fruition.
- Safe operation and handling
- Fundamentals of marksmanship
- Responsible firearms ownership and reinforcing the Constitutional right to bear arms
- Promoting discipline and mental focus
During 2015 more than 3,300 youth participated in rifle, shotgun, air rifle and archery programs.
Active shooting sports programs are a critical component to ensuring that young men stay in the Scouting program so that our overall character development objectives are met.
